Driving Test on a Monster Truck

Truck games really bring out the machismo and meanness in a person! Reminds me of some great film actors (and a few actresses) lounging around in their semi rig trailers while on an outdoor shoot for a complete action packed movie, involving a lot of blood and gore. Mr and Mrs. Smith, Indiana Jones, Lara Croft... I am sure these actors spend time playing some of these games! "Mad Truckers", "Monster Trucks", "Extreme Trucks", "Dune Buggies" are only some of the offerings... the options were almost endless. The "trucks" vary from the small pick-up vehicles to the really huge multi-rig behemoths. Playing these games is real fun and I suppose there is a breed of people who wouldn't want to be on any other game site than this.

Details on one of the games, Monster Truck Trials:
Game: The intention of this game is to successfully pass the 4 stages of monster truck madness trials. These include the maximum number of flips, the longest possible jump, the highest possible leap and a time challenge module. Really a challenging game, especially as each of the stages has a time limit of 1 min! Fast action and good format. Unlike a few of the other games, the vehicle doesn't get destroyed upon crashing.
Instructions: This was comprehensive and therefore added to the overall fun. The game controls, were elaborate with a lot of options available through the use of a number of keys. A little time spent on reading the instructions prior to the game followed by a little practice and you can do any number of things with the vehicle!
Graphics: Neat, and compares favourably with some of the other games I got a chance to play or view. The images were reasonably large and proportioning was good. However, the colouring could have been better and the slight drabness avoided. As already mentioned the time limits made the game interesting especially with the countdown timer pushing for a sense of urgency. All the stages were equally interesting with progressive levels of difficulty.
Sound: Again, a bit of a disappointment with simple background muzak playing on a short loop. There weren't any special effects either in the sound or when the vehicle crashed or did anything out of the ordinary other than stay on the tarmac. Complexity: Simple and straightforward, at least at the beginning. The game seems to have been designed fairly recently, taking evidence from the kind of dialogue popping up on screen at the beginning of the game. Rating: The game is definitely better than average, so on a scale of 1 to 10 an appropriate score would be 7. This could have been improved upon if the sound aspect had been better.

The game was an interesting one to play. I liked the overall format, colour combinations used, but overall it could have been more challenging. The game belied its machismo or mean image. Good for practice, but I am always looking for a bit of challenge to sink my teeth into. So the Monster Truck Trials need a little more effort by the designers to get into really high gear!
