About this truck game
Truck games - whether you are a kid or a grown-up (literally), helps to explore your meanness! Just take a look at Mad Truckers, Monster Trucks, Extreme Trucks, Dune Buggies... and it doesn't stop at those. You can have any variety of "trucks" in these games, starting with the smaller pick-ups to the really massive trailer trains. Playing some of these games, I am reminded of the Bruce Willis film Die Hard 4, which has a quite large semi rig trailer in a rather neat action sequence towards the end of the movie - some of the scenes seem to come straight out of one of the online games, or maybe the other way round!
Here's a review of one of the games, Monster Truck Curfew:
Game: In this game you are required to drive home in the vehicle so as to reach before the witching hour, i.e. midnight. The intention is to avoid hitting any of the cars including the police cruisers moving around with their flashing blue, red and white lights. The crossroads require special attention and running down pedestrians is a strict no-no.
Instructions: This was definitely limited and could have been more elaborate, which in turn would have made the game more interesting. As regards the game controls, while there were some details given about which key performing what action on the truck, the options were limited and a chance to make the game more fun has been lost. Once you have started off on the game, the option to pause or to get back to the start was simply not available, which is a bit annoying.
Graphics: The graphics were good, colourful and sharp, unlike some of the other games. The sizes of the images were big enough and the overall layout quite pleasing. The first few stages helped build up interest in the game and I am sure the "experts" will enjoy playing the more difficult stages.
Sound: This was a bit of a disappointment with simple background music playing on a short loop. There weren't any special sound effects when the vehicle crashed into another vehicle or person, or even when it flips over. More could have been done in this area.
Complexity: Simple and straightforward, at least at the beginning. The game seems to have been designed fairly recently, taking evidence from the kind of dialogue popping up on screen at the beginning of the game.
Rating: The game is definitely better than average, so on a scale of 1 to 10 an appropriate score would be 7. This could have been improved upon if the sound aspect had been better.
The game was an interesting one to play. I liked the overall format, colour combinations used, but overall it could have been more challenging. Moreover, how many people, especially youngsters, follow any kind of curfew these days? Therefore, although it was a nice premise for the game, the designer could perhaps set his or her own time frame to bring out an improved version!
